products
All prints produced by Chaotic Studio are carefully selected and handprinted to ensure both quality and consistency. Each artwork is accompanied by a custom-cut, three-fold leaflet, providing a detailed description of the artwork’s history and information about the artist.
We conduct extensive research in museums and art galleries, seeking works with intriguing stories and backgrounds, ensuring they fall within the public domain.
The treatment process is both delicate and thorough, often requiring manual vectorisation or enhancement of the images to achieve sufficient quality for printing at a minimum size of A3.
With each print, we include a leaflet detailing the artwork, the artist, and captivating anecdotes from the art movement or era from which the artwork originates. We aim to keep the text engaging, informal, and enjoyable—much like hearing it from a friend.
Many of the images displayed here are 3D renderings of the products, custom-made to simulate the texture and format of each item.
THE CROW
“Crow, Looking Up at Mosquito” was originally etched by Jan Mankes in 1918. Mankes was a solitary artist who lived in the wooded area of the Dutch village De Knipe, far from the country’s cultural centers. The original artwork is housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. This Giclée adaptation of the piece can be printed on either Garzapapel or Ingres d’Arches MBM paper, in a 1:1 format, available in A3 or A4 width.
the flowers
This illustration, featured in the 1896 book “Studies in Plant Form and Design” by A. E. V. Lilley and W. Midgeley, emphasizes the wild rose’s thorns more than its tenderness, transforming a typically delightful image into one with a somewhat violent undertone. The original book is available on the Internet Archive.
This print is offered in three sizes—A2, A3, and A4—and can be printed on either Hahnemühle Etching Crème or Canson Figueiras Linen.
the devil
“Gargantua and Pantagruel by Rabelais AKA Pvssy Pwr” depicts a scene from Chapter XLVII of the fourth book of Pantagruel, where a woman attempts to save her husband from a reckoning with the devil. This story was also retold by Jean de La Fontaine in the 17th century in verse form under the title “The Devil of Pope-Fig Island,” with a similar illustration by Charles Eisen.
The original illustration can be found in the HathiTrust Digital Library, available in digitalized PDF format. “Gargantua and Pantagruel by Rabelais AKA Pvssy Pwr” is a modern reiteration of this original artwork, adapted for Giclée printing.
the fireworks
“Illustrated Catalogue of Japanese Night Bomb Shells” is a curated collection of selected artworks from the Hirayama Firework catalogues, which are preserved in digitalized PDF format on the City Library of Yokohama website. This collection has been custom-made for Giclée printing in A3 format on Awagami Bamboo paper.
the seasons
Originally copyrighted in 1848, Smith’s Illustrated Astronomy has been republished several times. “The Seasons and The Signs of the Zodiac” is based on the 1850 edition and has been redesigned for Giclée printing. It is available in A4, A3, and A2 sizes, printed on either Hahnemühle Crème or Hahnemühle William Turner paper. The original artwork can be found in the David Rumsey Map Collection at the David Rumsey Map Center of Stanford Libraries.
the shadows
The original “Schaduwbeelden” print was created using etching for the Nieuwe Nederlandsche Kinderprenten series between 1865 and 1875 in the Netherlands. The original print is housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. It is available for printing in A4 and A3 sizes on Khadi White Rag, Arches BFK Rives Velin, or Hahnemühle Ingres-Bütten paper.
the solar system
